Question

No audio from my older HK AVR (1999) from my newer LG TV

Aug 21, 2017 9:05AM PDT

I have a newer LG TV bought in 2014. I want to send the audio signal through to an older (1999) Harmon Kardon AVR 300. I am using gold plated audio jacks from the audio out on the TV to Video 2 (recommended by HK) but there is no sound. I've turned the audio to external speakers and still no sound. Do I need an optical cable instead of the audio jacks. Prior to the HK I was sending the signal through HDMI to a newer receiver in a different room. I swapped the TV's so the bigger LG is now in the bigger room and no sound is my result. Can you help?

Which LG?

Most have RCA jacks that are inputs to the TV not outputs from the TV.

Since the exact model of the TV is not here, I can't check it out. Add a link to your model so members can see what's up.

LG shows the RCA jacks on TV are inputs.

If you connected there, no sound.

file:///C:/Users/proffitt/AppData/Local/Temp/MFL67690902_01%252BRS.pdf on page 25 notes the audio output is optical and on page 27 the headphone jack is noted. The headphone jack will be stereo.

RCA jacks on the TV would not be the right setup in this case.
