Question

No audio from my motherboard

Jan 18, 2015 9:38AM PST

I bought a new pair of headphones that uses a standard 3.5mm minijack. This is a problem as my speakers are plugged into my soundcard, so I figured I would just use the motherboard jack to power my headphones. No audio comes from them. I go into my playback devices and all I have is my sound card and my television (that is using hdmi). I have checked the disabled devices and all that is there is the old S/PDIF that I used for my previous headset. I have checked device manager and there are 2 sound options, ASUS Xonar DG Audio Device (my sound card) and AMD High Definition Audio Device. So I'm not 100% sure that the second is MOBO since ASRock is my MOBO brand. I have gone to the website and downloaded and installed the RealTek driver, but still no change.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

maybe you can't just get another set of computer speaker. I know there are lots of them have earphone connection.

And if we did activate it, what a mess. You'll want to use some audio Y cable or audio switch box in my opinion.

You may follow the below steps and check if the default device is set properly for sound output -
a. Click Start type Sound in the Start Search box.
b. Click Sound in the search results at the top of the Start menu.
c. Click the Playback tab. Notice the check mark next to the default device. For most
users, the default device is Speakers.

If you have a message stating No audio devices are installed I would suggest you to right click in the same window and click on show disabled devices. Then speaker's option will get displayed. You may right click and click on enable to enable the speakers.
d. Select the sound device (that is speakers) that you want as the default sound device, and then click Set default.
e. Click the Properties button, then select the Levels tab, and make sure that the volume
is at 100 and not muted.
f. Click OK to save your settings and to close the Sound dialog box.
Hope this could help.
