Question

No admin rights, no windows cd, no tech knowledge

Feb 22, 2015 4:52AM PST

Hello everybody!
OK so my brother past away a few months ago and I want to give his laptop to our parents. He has it all locked up tighter than a nuns hooha on Sunday so I don't have admin rights, i couldn't find a windows CD and besides, it doesn't have a CD drive. I don't want to "hack" into his computer, don't want to look at his pics, internet search history or dig through his emails. I just want to reset the system back to to day he bought it or buy a new windows CD, totally wipe all his stuff off there and install the new windows.
I've tried to enable the ghost admin account to do a reset but everything I do requires approval from his admin account. so access denied.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance!

Then use the recovery partition to reset to factory conditions. I'll wait for others to advise in case this a case of hacking someones pc.

Answer
In a pinch, call the maker and order restore media.

It's less traumatic and makes restoring it to factory condition a trivial piece of work.

Answer
Order recovery media...

Believe me when it comes to Win 8.x its far easier to have the recovery media in hand, since it appears you have a lot to deal with. The cots isn't that great, less than you think. Check that makers support website and order it. The only huhaha, is making sure there is no HD secure boot or any bios level security enabled, it appears your able to access by booting to the OS.

You maybe able to access the recovery media is found on the HD/storage media of the PC. if so, then of course you can try what you want. Check my post on the top of this forum for NTPASSWORD and what it does to remove password(s), etc.. If you hose it up, then ordering the recovery media is advised. If successful, you gain admin rights by removing his acct.(no password or now known, right) upgrade your acct. to admin. level and proceed from there. Wink
