No access to internet for one user

by jrs514 / July 14, 2010 3:15 AM PDT

Our home has a computer with 4 users, each has their own log-0n and desktop etc. We have MS XP, AVG security, and high speed internet through our cable provider.

Inexpicably, my wife cannot get on the internet from her desktop, although the rest of us can. This just happenned recently and there were no problems before. We've tried both Mozilla and IE.

I have tried disabling the firewall to see if this helped. It didn't. I've done virus scans, malware scans, restored system to an earlier date, nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Have you tried system restore to a point in time ...
by Edward ODaniel / July 14, 2010 3:22 AM PDT

prior to the problem?

If not, give it a try.

Often this tyep of problem comes about because of permissions being altered or even user account corruption.

If the system restore can't be done (no retrore point available before the problem of you turned it off) then you might try creating a new user account for her.

Thanks. I did try restoring (to three different dates) and it did not help. So I just set her up with a new user account. Fortunately she doesn't have a lot of stuff to transfer. Cheers, roy
