It could be the television - there's a distinct possibility that Samsung Australia would probably be able to answer better than I would.
That said, even though the channel may be broadcasting in 5.1 (meaning that you'll get the signal) that in and of itself doesn't mean the show was recorded in 5.1, and for that particular show, it may not be available.
If nothing else, a call to service might help resolve the issue, or you can discuss it further with them - they'll be able to do far more than I would from here.
I hope that even though this doesn't solve your issue, I'm able to point you in the right direction.
Keep me posted!

Hi
I've just connected my new LA55A950 via the optical output to a Logitech Z-5500 Digital surround speaker system.
However when viewing OTA HD content (eg TenHD, 9HD and 7HD in Australia) that are also feeding Dolby Digital 5.1 audio (pressing the Info button on the TV remote says channel being watched is 1080i Dolby Digital) I'm only hearing Stereo (Z-5500 displays Stereo as the source).
Then when i switch the optical cable from the Z-5500 to my PS3 I get 5.1 sound (Z-5500 displays Dolby as the source).
I'm not using anything other than the TVs internal digital tuner with the antenna connected directly to the back of the TV.
Any ideas why I wouldnt be getting 5.1 from the optical out on the TV?
