Nintendo Wii or Xbox 360

Jul 31, 2006 7:34AM PDT

Yea so I'm getting a new game system but i'm not sure what to get. All i know is i'm not getting the PS3 (too expensive)

But i'm leaning towards the 360 because i have an xbox right now.

But i'm still not sure.

It would be great if i could get some suggestions.

WII!!!???
Aug 1, 2006 1:51AM PDT

The free online will not be nearly as good as xbox live.

What good quality games are there for the wii??? Super Mario 64 wii (super mario galaxy)!! Super Monkey Ball?? Super Smash Bros. Brawl, with all new characters that have the exact same moves!!!

How about THE XBOX 360!!! Halo 3, elder scrolls 4, PGR 3, whole bunch of other games, PLUS xbox live (and hd games).

hmm... I like the 360 better

Yah the Wii
Aug 1, 2006 10:40AM PDT

Especialy if you have a nintendo ds. You can make any system look bad if u judge one unfairly. Yah the xbox has halo, but to me that game is just like ever other friggin game, i mean halos fun but dont buy a system just for that. As online when have u played the wii dont say the internet wont be as good and its free. Please dont start bashing the wii because u HAVENT EVER PLAYED IT. ok? And comon its nintendo they make good quality games. Also in the end YOU WONT BE PAYING 400$ FOR THE SYSTEM ALONE. I dont know about you but 400$ for a system is crazy. Even if they remade the exact same super smash bros itd be fun you know why ONLINE PLAY. And i was very pleased to see a article that lucasarts is very interested in the wii, can any one say wiimote as a lightsaber? O and Microsoft did a very dumb thing in my mind not all xbox games play on a 360. With the 360 u have to buy a fan so it wont freze and crash, believe me.

Well, you haven't played the wii either, have you? And you'll still have to buy controllers, just in case you thought that your tv remote was a wii controller.

And I didn't JUST say halo. There are a whole bunch of great games already out for the xbox 360. In the end, the 360 will have more GOOD games than the total number of wii games.

And xbox live will be better than the wii's online gaming because, well, you'll get what you pay for.

I guess nintendo does make "good quality games" if you like Super Monkey Ball, Mario, etc.

I think 400 bucks for something like the 360 is a GREAT deal. Why is wii half the price??? It's half the gaming console. What I think is crazy is thinking the wii is better than the 360.

Yeah, I agree that they should have made all the xbox games 360 compatible, but in my case that doesn't matter too much 'cause I don't have an xbox(1).

Yah i havent palyed the Wii but i have played a 360 its not worth 400$b Besides you have to buy a fan and a ton of crap.

1)I dont know what gaming system you buy but you always have to buy a second or third controller

XBOX 360 > wii
Aug 2, 2006 9:20AM PDT

As far as compatability goes, I just counted, and 228 (maybe a few more, a few less) xbox(1) games are compatible with xbox 360. I'm positive all the good games are compatible, and I doubt that whoever started this thread has a game that isn't compatable.

"Besides you have to buy a fan and a ton of crap."

I don't have to buy a fan, and if you buy a bundle (like me) that comes with an extra controller and a play+charge kit, what else do you need? The box the "premium" console ($400) comes in includes the component hd cable, xbox live headset, ethernet cable, and 20gb hard drive. Don't forget to get xbox live gold for twelve months. If you think $4.17/month is expensive... well, it's not. So what other "crap accessories" do you need?

"PLEASE stop saying that YOU DONT FREAKIN KNOW"

C'mon, do you really think that an online service from NINTENDO will be better than xbox live!?

"Thats 400$ for the system alone i dont know about you guys but im not rich and i have to buy the system itself400$ plus 50-60$ for a new game is just plain stupid"

Then get the core system which is only gonna be like, what, $50 more than wii. The wii's games are probably going to be $50 anyways, and if it's better than the gamecube's (which started at $50 new), then chances are that the wii's games will be $50, maybe more.

"I dont know what gaming system you buy but you always have to buy a second or third controller"

Just thought you might think your tv remote could be a wii controller, and not go out and buy another controller.

"I dont know about you but i look forward to playing zelda, Super smash bros, Metroid prime, Mario Galaxy, Red steel"

I don't know about you, but I look forward to playing halo 2+3, elder scrolls, star wars kotor 3, project gotham racing 3, tom clancy ghost recon advanced war fighter, perfect dark zero, call of duty 2, ncaa + madden football, and much more...

"o and ALL gamecube games and all the old nintendo systems"

1) even if nintendo did what microsoft did, you'd still be able to play all the gcube games you own, unless you have games that are stupid games off of movies and tv shows meant for kids between ages 5-10. Either way you'd be able to play your gc games.
2) Who wants to play those old nintendo games anyways??? C'mon, that's why you're buying an xbox 360 or a nintendo wii, and not an NES or SNES or N64.

DO YOU EVEN HAVE A 360?
Because me and my friend had 1 it overheated and froze and crashed unless u bought the fan. It seems to me like you dont have 1 and are just talking.
YOU can go buy a gaming system for 400$ personally i will never buy a gaming system for that much.
I wouldnt be suprised if nintendos internet was just as good, your excuss is its nintendo *** good excuss.
Nintendo publicly said its games would be no more than 50$ and they would strive to make them cheaper.
Just thought you might think your tv remote could be a wii controller, and not go out and buy another controller.-yah maybe a freakin 5 year old but no one with half a brain.
I don't know about you, but I look forward to playing halo 2+3, elder scrolls, star wars kotor 3, project gotham racing 3, tom clancy ghost recon advanced war fighter, perfect dark zero, call of duty 2, ncaa + madden football, and much more...- half those games are coming out on all the systems

No I don't have a 360 (I plan to get one within the next 4 weeks), but I've played on one before and i've done my homework too. Me and my friend played four games for a decent amount of time each and also watched a dvd, and it never froze or crashed (and it didn't have a fan either).

Let's see if I can come up with an analogy for you about xbox live vs. wii's internet...
got it. Let's say I'm gonna go buy a Honda Accord. I could get the LX trim level, which is just pretty basic, or I could step it up to the EX trim level, which has more stuff, is priced higher and is... well... better. But the LX is STILL GOOD. It's just that the EX is better than it.
Can't give out specs 'cause the website isn't workin' too well for me...

I never said they WOULD be over 50, I said they would be AT LEAST 50, and MAYBE over 50.

I listed 10 games. I looked at the games coming out for wii, and found only Call of Duty (#3), and Madden 07... that's 2, not 5. Sure they might all come out for ps3 (except halo and maybe pgr3 and kotor3), but only TWO for the wii, and those are just the games i mentioned in my post

One main purpose of the hard drive is to save your games easily, rather than buy like... five memory cards (which would have way less space and for a higher price).

"PLEASE GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT"

Ok, let me list the only FACTS i put in my post:

-228 games for xbox 1 that are compatable with 360
--that is true (might be off by a few though)

-Premium console costs 400 bucks
--true

-Contents in the premium console box includes the component hd cable, xbox live headset, ethernet cable, and 20gb hard drive
--true

-$4.17 (actually... it's 4.166666666666666666666666, but that's pretty much 4.17) per month when you buy the 12-month subscription to xbox live (which costs 50 bucks)
--true

everything else in that post is either opinion, or what I thought (are those same thing? depends... ah well)

So... yes, I DID get my facts right.

wii is cheaper
Mar 19, 2009 2:48AM PDT

Forget the system. I went on walmart.com and Guitar hero pack is more expensive on xbox than wii. Controlers are the only thing on the xbox that is less expensive than a wii. Wii opens up to a wider range of audiance. On walmart.com there are more games that are rated E on wii than the xbox has. Halo 3 is only for adults who have kicks out of killing people. Wii has funner games. Period!

re: wii
Aug 3, 2006 8:41AM PDT

360 WL controllers go for up to $50 for the unit and extra for the recharger. That's quite a hefty sum.

Deep dish pizza vs traditional hand tossed pizza... games could be argued to no end between the 2 platforms. I prefer Nintendo games, but will have to respect that some ppl think 360 games are better. However, at least wii games are either exclusive (Mario, Metroid, Zelda, pokemon, etc.) or unique (having a gyroscope+motion sensor controller for an interface is quite a different gaming experience as adding analog sticks to a traditional controller).
Many 360 games you mentioned like Madden, Tom Clancy, and much more are also available for PC. True, some would have to spend hundreds and hundreds of $$ to upgrade their PC, but being how the majority of ppl don't have HDTV, that point is moot. Halo 2 is slated to be released later this year for PC.

XB Live is certainly nice, but to assume that something paid for is better than free isn't always the truth. Not everyone is willing to pay $50/yr for global headphone functionality, rankings, player skill matching, IM chatting, etc. Just ask the many satisfied online PC and PS2 players out there. Dunno what wii has in store for OL play other than Nin saying it's included in their focus and will be a good experience. If it's anywhere as good as OL play for PC and PS2, then wii players have nthing to worry bout.

Then get the core system which is only gonna be like, what, $50 more than wii. The wii's games are probably going to be $50 anyways, and if it's better than the gamecube's (which started at $50 new), then chances are that the wii's games will be $50, maybe more.

not likely to go above $50 for wii games. From a development standpoint, for the most part, wii is just a GC with the Wiimote added to the interface. Devs have touted that the GC is pretty good to program for, unlike other systems like PS2 and n64 which were horrible in that regard.

360 and PS3 on the other hand. Once devs REALLY tap into those systems full potential and start rendering each blade of grass in a stadium or each pleat on some cheerleader's skirt in spectacular HD, speculation goes game can cost as much as $70 to $85.

Just thought you might think your tv remote could be a wii controller, and not go out and buy another controller.

I've heard some old dude try to load up windows XP on his son's 360. That wasted alot of Dell's tech support time Grin

1)
?? Don't get what you're saying here with "if NIn did what M$ did...."

2)
You'd be VERY surprised at what ppl play STILL these days. Some of the old school Atari classics like Centipede, Joust, and those 16 color Atari 2600 games are still popular b/c they just had spot-on gameplay. Similar to how some ppl still watch old movies like Gone With The Wind or Star Wars ep#4-6. Tetris, PacMan, and Doom (the first one) are still played all around. Doom 2 was selling real well even in the mid 90s at retailers like EB (when it was still Electronics Boutique and not EB Games). People still whip out their NES and SNES b/c again, those games were "spot-on" in gameplay, graphics, and/or fun factor.

It just ain't with Nintendo users. One must appreciate the irony how some ppl get the powerful PSP with near PS2 graphics and end up playing alot of emulators instead like GBA and Genesis.

And then there's the 360. I've seen some of the features of the 360 at a friend's house. You ask "Who wants to play those old nintendo games anyways???". Well, let me ask...

-who really wants to DL movie clips onto their already too small 360 hardrive? Any low-end PC can DL movie trailers
-who really wants to play games from Xbox Arcade with polygons flying around a field?

In this regard, the 360 is every bit as guilty as the wii if you put it like that

About the controllers...
I'm guessing that you didn't know that they can also run on AA BATTERIES!!!!!!!!!

I never said that the Wii games WOULD be over fifty bucks, I said MAYBE/there's a possibility. I said they would at least be $50.

"You'd be VERY surprised at what ppl play STILL these days. Some of the old school Atari classics like Centipede, Joust, and those 16 color Atari 2600 games are still popular b/c they just had spot-on gameplay."

Actually I wouldn't be surprised. But take a poll, and you'll find out that more people would rather play an xbox360 over any of those old games: pong, tempest, centipede, etc.

"And then there's the 360. I've seen some of the features of the 360 at a friend's house. You ask "Who wants to play those old nintendo games anyways???". Well, let me ask...

ready for my answer!!! GET THE CORE SYSTEM.

Now for xbox live, you have to know that it's going to be the better online gaming service over the wii's. Yeah, I think the wii's will be good, but to say it would be BETTER than the 360??? (not saying you said that). Yeah, wii's will be better for the people that don't want to pay 50/12months (4.17/month). But the actual service won't be better than the xbox's. It won't have the stuff that xbox live has.

Just cause you pay extra dosnt mean its better, what do I have to say to get that through your head?
Personally im 15 and i plan on getting a game or two off the wiis virtual system, age dosnt matter.
Im asking can the Xbox 360 surf the web?
you probably will get a freze or crash if you BUY IT, not play a few games at a store for 15 min.

NO! I don't know for I fact, that's just WHAT I THINK. You don't know how good it will be either!

"Is it just me or should a gaming system suppose to play games not dl movie trailers, i can see andingdvd but all that other stuff is crap u dont need a xbox for."

Should I say 'Is it just me or should a car be able to play cd's? I mean, radio's not bad, but you don't need all that other crap.'?
No, I shouldn't say that. It's a nice extra to have. It's not like that's what it's primary purpose is.
Face it: you just hate the xbox 360. You say who needs those great graphics. I say good graphics! etc. Game console are only supposed to play games!!!" No, 'cause that's a nice feature to have. You haven't even really said anything great about the wii besides stuff like "I can play Metroid Prime and MARIO!" All the other stuff you say is just bashing on the 360.

"Im asking can the Xbox 360 surf the web?"
idiot. earlier in the same post you said that you don't need all that extra crap and the only thing a console needs to do is play games.
but i'll answer anyways. no. but it's a good feature for the wii. too bad it can't.

you probably will get a freze or crash if you BUY IT, not play a few games at a store for 15 min.

I ALREADY SAID I PLAYED IT WITH MY FRIEND FOR A LONG TIME, WATCHED A DVD, AND IT DIDN'T FREEZE OR CRASH!!!

Wii or the xbox 360?
Dec 8, 2008 7:30PM PST

We all know xbox360 has better graphics, but the wii has fun gameplay. Heck, those old atari games used to be hits and still are, they only offer it to you for 5$? Xbox360 is about 400$, and the xbox360 they put in commercials for only 199$ is the arcade, only plays xbox360 games, not including all the accereis. The wii, has a menu with the weather channel, which i stay in for hours (so fun). With the wii you acually have to pretend your doing the movement. People are saying the remote nees AA batteris, well all u need to friggin do is buy a recherger for 10 bucks! Wii is trying their best to make good games for us. The fact they made the new star wars game,is awesome, using the wiimote as a lightsaber and nunchuk as the force? The wii, my man!

ive had my 360 for 18months now, had no issues with it at all and havent needed to buy additional fans etc! nothing can beat xbox live and the line up of services / games going out in 2009 is v impressive.... history shows that the console with the best / most games wins in the end.. poor ps3 (overpriced)!

re: -_-
Aug 3, 2006 3:53PM PDT

According to EB Games, the WL controllers go for $50. AFAI can tell, that's WITHOUT the batteries, so it doesn't make the controllers any cheaper

The Core bundle is more to my liking, but not having an XB, I won't be able to play XB games at all since the emu to play XB games is on the hardrive. Yet, another irony. Ppl who got the first Xb are likely to have a 360 while those who never got it would probably NOT go for the 360. Yet, the former group would definately spring for the Premium bundle for the HD niceties. Going by this guess, you're likely to end up with 2 or 0 machines that can play XB games.

Again, leaning towards Nin, I'm most likely to get a wii, but even that's not saying much. Specifically, MAYBE after a year it gets released, and the others when they dip below $200. As for the PS3 getting that low, you bet I can wait that long.

- Collapse -
360
Aug 4, 2006 5:51AM PDT

Now I'm sorta leaning towards the xbox 360. Personally, I think the games, and graphics are better.

I mean, Zelda's good i guess but i like Halo, Fable, Splinter Cell and games like that better.

And if i have to buy i fan, I will. That shouldn't keep me from buying a console. I mean its only like 20 bucks to get it.

The graphics aren't really that important to me (no HD-TV) but i think everyone agrees the xbox 360 has better graphics. And i might get an Hd-TV soon.

As for xbox live, I probably would have liked the Wiiconnect24 better because it's free and I really won't be using Live that much but i don't think i should buy a console just for free online multyplayer play. Anyways, i dont even know if Wii's online play will be that good either.

I really like the Wii remote, but i think that the Xbox's controller is good too.

I like how the Wii is priced really low, but I'm spending a lot of money on this game console so I might as well by the best one. I used to have a gamecube because it was 100$. Then i found out i hated it, and i had to sell it to get an xbox which i lost like 100 dollars doing so. Anyways my point is, is that you should't buy a game console because it's cheap. You should buy it because you like it.

Anyways, I'll still wait for the Wii to come out just to see how it is and stuff.

- Collapse -
I have a 360
Aug 4, 2006 6:48AM PDT

Mine has never overheated and even if it did, they sell a third party extra cooling system for like $20 (not expensive at all). All you have to do is make sure the area is well ventilated and other electronics aren't under it and you should be fine.

I think I am going to buy a Wii after a while because I want to get some of the older games and play them too. Xbox Live Arcade only has so many rights to older games.

One thing I have seen is that the new Wii games are very basic in graphics and gameplay. Their new golf game looks worse than Mario Golf for N64.

Halo 3 is worth a 360 alone, and throw in Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Gears of War, PGR3/4, etc. you have a hell of a lineup of games.

Wii has their classicsl ike Zelda, Mario, Mariokart, Smash Bros...but they rely too much on these games geared towards kids to keep up with the 360's lineup.

And for all the discussion about Wii's online vs Xbox Live...Xbox Live will be 10 times better. Remember how crappy the PS2 online program was? That is what happens when you don't charge people for the service, the developers don't give a crap how good it is.

Microsoft has a whole version of Xbox Live under their belt and the new version is fantastic.

360 has better hardware, performance, variety of games, proven games, and online service...All Wii has going for it is the price, innovation of the controllers, and their library of older games.

I believe Wii will be a secondary console for most people. Most will have a 360 or PS3 and then a Wii as well.

ps3vs360
Dec 18, 2007 1:08PM PST

many people seem to think the ps3 is too expensive compared to xbox 360. Take this into account. ONLINE!! online for the 360 costs money in just a couple of years by which time the good games for ps3 will come out you will have spent more on the 360 then you would have on 2 80gb ps3s. take that into account when you buy. also if you want a better play experience and more family fun time go for the wii its got more interactivity and a larger age range for games especially when game companies figure out that the wii so popular.

No offense to Sony, but so much crap has gotten in the way of PS3's popularity that it seems like a bit of a gamble to try and buy this system. First off, the ridiculous initial price tag that Sony foolishly assumed every human on earth would pay. Secondly, the whole Zipatoni (www.alliwantforchristmasisapsp.com) debacle. Thirdly, its shoddy lineup of games. It's not to say that it's a bad system, but so far its starting run has been pretty poor. Lemme just say that the 360 is a must for any hardcore gamer, considering its lineup is based around the average 15-24 demographic. It's long-run price for Xbox Live might be worth it, might not. On the other hand, the Wii isn't in great demand for no reason. It's got a well-rounded lineup of fantastic games. Online may be a slight hassle with Friend Codes, but alot of game companies are providing their own online services within these games that override this requirement.

Ergo, I've ordered the systems from worst-bet to best-bet: PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii. I recommend the third.

Playstation still loses.

Sony clearly stated that there will not be a Ps4, you know what that means? Ps3 is the last playstation, and even if it gets better in a few years then it is still going to lose. So you Ps3 fanboys better get all your thrills with the Ps3, becuase it is the last you will have, ever. For the record, Microsoft is already working on the new Xbox, so in the end Xbox wins, Playstation fades away.

If you like online gaming go Xbox...plan and simple
The have a great list of games..
They have the pro holiday bundle for $299 with 2 games..
and a few places have GC with them..
and 13 months of online is under $40 on sale....(newegg)
I like the Wii... but it seemed more fun with a group of people...
But really look at the games you like and go from there
The both have +/-

Get both (Xbox 360 and Wii)

We have both Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360! I think the Wii set the gaming experience at different level (lacks graphics and games), it?s very interactive. I actually like the Wii more than the Xbox 360. However, if you?re into gaming then the Xbox 360 is the way to go. The graphics are outstanding, the controller has a nice feel, and there are a lot of games to choose from. I agree regarding the PS3. We have a PS2 and currently Sony still has games available from the PS2. I did buy the PS3 (ended up returning it) and at that time it did not have the vibrating controller. For the money? yes the Xbox is cheaper, but for the power then the PS3 is the way to go. I?m waiting when the PS3 reaches $150 and then I?ll buy one. Good luck!
