It's hard to tell whether what will be. You have to stick around and wait for a while for a good and affordable digital SLR. I've read and tried out many dSLR. So far, the technology of either CMOS or CCD isn't yet steady. Nevertheless, the techonology of DSLR camera has gone very far. I'm sure that an affordable DSLR camera will outperform the old film SLR camera within the next few years. What seems to be undesirable to me is that most affordable DSLR camera has a multiply factor. Even Nikon D70 and Canon D20 are no exceptional. Canon 1DS seem to be the only one with the full 35mm capability. But, look at the price ! How many are willing to spend the money that much for . So, hang in there. Spend for what you want and have to now. Good luck.

If you want high quality digital images of stationary objects at a low budget, then use a film camera, slow film, then scan the film with a film scanner(you can get a 3200 dpi film scanner for under $300). If you need to use a high iso setting, then you need to buy a digital slr to get good quality. Here is a link to a 3200 iso iso image taken on a 20D(no, I don't own one, at least not yet. Happy )
