You can add Pentax and Sony too, and you might even consider not buying a DSLR, but an ILC by Olympus, Panasonic, Samsung, or Sony. What do you want a camera for? If you have a camera, what does it lack? Do you intend to do your own processing? Is video important?

I finally decided to move from a compact camera to a DSLR.
A few days ago I bought a Nikon D3100. (£399.95). I am delighted with it.... Happy

I am still, of course, playing with it, trying to get used to my new "toy"!

I had a small Fuji digital camera that was fantastic but lost it in Chicago 2 years ago. So I decided to buy a full sized camera that is still automatic but you can change numerous settings on it if you'd like. You can take videos on it (with sound), you can take action pictures where the camera takes a shot about 3 pictures per second and all you have to do is hold down the button and it has a 20 optical zoom so that you can get crystal clear pictures even from a distance. I am a novice but I truly enjoy using this camera. Canon SX20. It's great however I really wish I still had my small digital camera when I do not feel like lugging my Canon with me to every occasion.
Tried the Nikon version of the same camera but found that the pictures come out too yellow. I tried 3 Nikons just to make sure it was not defective. And, it just took yellow pictures.
