And remember the old adage about the camera does not take the shot. My best shot was done on an early digital camera. It won't win any awards but it is my favorite.

I'd like to buy both of my teenage daughters a DSLR for Christmas; they're both studying photography as part of an art course and they are both good photographers.
I have a D5000, which they use regularly, and a couple of lenses (which is why I want to stick with Nikon). On a budget of £250 each, it seems that I could go for a new D3100 or a secondhand D5000. Which would be the better choice?
