I was researching the Vivitar and ran across one instance that a Vivitar 383 was used on a Canon DSLR camera and the camera suffered a burned flash trigger circuit.
I remember reading that older designed flash units should not be used on Digital SLR cameras, because some flash units have a high current across the trigger circuit which can burn the contacts in newer camera designs.
I then tried to find more about the Vivitar and could not find anything about the trigger current in the 383.
I could not find anything that said that it worked safely in any particular Nikon camera.
It only says that the 383 can be purchased with a Nikon flash mount.
No mention of what Nikon camera models.
Something to think about.
I just got a Nikon d5100 and I am falling in love with photography all over again. I already have a Nikon n80 film camera with a few AF lenses and an SB28 Nikon flash. I am getting ready to buy a flash for the d5100 and I'm looking at 2. The SB700 and the Viv 383. My question is: What am I giving up if I choose the 383 over the SB700?
