Nikon D90 or Pentax K20D

Nov 6, 2008 5:11AM PST

Hi every body! I'm new in the forum. I owned a Pentax K100D for an ear - very satisfied. Sold it and intended to buy a K20d 18-250 lens. Now I'm between Pentax K20d and Nikon D90 18-105. Shooting day and nights landscape and parties. Also like to stitch a panoramas. I read Pentax has bather lens and I like longer zoom, but on other side Nikon seems has a bather quality and fast AF. Same one can suggest me which one is for a preference. Both are $1,000.
Also,as these new models DSLR has a life view mode - do they have a stitch assistant in the menu like all point an shoot Canons?
Thanks in advance to everybody!

Nikon D90 or Pentax K20D

The Pentax has lens stabilzation built into the body and works very well with ANY Pentax compatible lens. If you still have the K100, the lens from that will work fine. I have the Pentax 18-255mm lens and love it. The Nikon requires that you pay for stabilization every time you buy a lens (you have to pay extra to get the stabilized lens). On the other hand Nikon has more accessories and lens available for its products than does Pentax. As far as the prices you mentioned, they are out of date. I am not sure about the Nikon, but the Pentax can be had online (new)from reputable vendors for under $800.

Hot pixels

Thank you for your respond. That's the price with 18-250 lens. I think $900.00. I sold the K100, so I have no camera now. I like Pentax, but the CNET and dpreview talking for some problem in auto focusing and for some hot pixels. Wat dos it mean "hot pixel"?
Thanks again!
George

I would stay with the Pentax because your familiar with it, and you don't have to buy lens if you built up your collection.

Yes you pay for IS in every VR lens, but they are not any more expensive than the other brands lens. Some of the in-body IS lens collection cost well more than the lens with IS.

Confused

Well I am a little bit confused about the price comparison of pentax and other cameras. Current price of nikon d90 is $800(body) 1040(with 18-105mm). However, K20 is priced at $759 (body) which is just 40 less than d90. But I've seen many reviews where people are talking about 30-40% less price of K20D as compared to d90. Can anywhere I get k20D in $1000 appr. with a lens comparable to 18-105 of d90?
