I don't consider either one my DSLR.

Well, I'd go for either Rebel XT or 20D instead. Consider the price vs performance. The fact is that DIGIC II processor really has a greater impact on the picture's quality - much lower noise. In additions, Canon has many SLR lenses and more accessories for you to try on in the long run.Any way, you may view it differently. Good luck.

I would pick the Nikon

I have an Olympus and I don't care for it at all. Of course, it is a very old, point and click model, not the one you are contemplating.. But after my experience with that Olympus, I know I do not care for them at all and don't think too highly of the company. ::shrug::

I just bought My first SLR today. I chose a Canon Digital Rebel, but I saw those Nikons and they are nice too. If I could have found a better deal on one, I might have bought one instead. But I am poor and I got the Canon cheaper.

The D70 if you can afford it

I can't comment about the Olympus but I traded my old digital SLR for the Nikon D70 and am delighted. I love the quick response (no shutter lag) and great shots right out of the box - no need to tweak them in Photoshop.
I'd recommend it to my sister who wants to go digital but she can't afford it.
I got this because the pro camera shop in my area recommended it. This is the camera that they supply for camera rentals, so they obviously think it is great for all levels.

Good luck!
