I've looked at both of these cameras. I am a real estate broker and I take lots of interior pictures. No one makes a camera built for our needs. We need a camera optimized for 640x480 because the Multiple Listing Service and Realtor.com require a max of 100k. So megapixels are a waste except for "personal pictures" We do need a hotshoe for a powerful flash. Most of all, we need wide angle-capability without having to buy an expensive additional lens.We don't need no telephoto, optical or digital. The Rebel strikes out with it's 1.6 "conversion factor lens" so it's 18mm is really like 28mm. And there is no great Canon lens available to buy that will fill the bill. Not so with the Nikon. The standard lens works great and there are more wide-angles available in the Nikon line.So the D70 is the leader for real estate applications.
I am a reporter working on a newspaper story on the D70 and EOS 300D. It's not so much a comparison or review (it would be a little late for those at this point) as a story about amateur photographers who are continuing their hobby, or maybe rediscovering it, with one or both of these cameras. My editor was interested in these cameras because, since they sell for just under $1000 (body only on the Nikon), they are financially accessible for more people than previous digital slrs.
