It is more about, where not to buy.

If you do a Google search for Nikon D300 you will find all types of low prices. If the price is much lower than $1,800 ... look-out.

Google has a lot of Sponsored Links that pop-up, and they advertise very low prices.
Every One of them is bogus.

The D300 is in high demand and no authorized dealer is going to sell it much below $1,800.

If you want the body only, keep watching and you may find it well below $1800. For example DELL had it under 1650 with a coupon recently. If you need a lens, check out Costco.com. I got mine with the 70-300mm VR a few months back for $1999.00.
