Nikon Coolpix S1 - any news?

Mar 16, 2005 4:26AM PST

Can anyone link to reviews (not Nikon press releases) of the Nikon Coolpix S1? I know it hasn't come out yet, but when you see something credible about it, please link here. If anyone gets one right away, I'd also love to hear your opinions.

Thanks

The Ink is not even dry on that press release yet.

But Amazon.com has already posted a price of $400 and says it will be available on May-1.

Nikon's first ultra thin camera.

For the ones who have not seen the press release, it is here:

It is very detailed.
Lots of information.

Any pre-first impressions from the posted specs? Anything in particular stand out to an expert?

Nikon features - any good?
Mar 17, 2005 2:41AM PST

Does anyone have any experience with these Nikon features (off the Amazon page for the Coolpix S1)?

1. Nikon Exclusive Face Priority Autofocus
The S1 can distinguish when the subject is a human face and sets the focus accordingly. Now all your portraits will have tack-sharp focus on the subject's face (rather than the wall behind them!).

2. Nikon Exclusive In-Camera Red-Eye Fix
A hands-free solution for red-eye; this powerful software analyzes the image data and corrects most typical instances of red-eye in less than 3 seconds! The In-Camera Red-Eye Fix feature turns on automatically when the red-eye reduction flash mode is selected.

3. Nikon Exclusive D-Lighting
The Coolpix S1 incorporates D-Lighting, which automatically compensates for under- and over-exposure due to insufficient flash or excessive back lighting in a picture.

Hi, I've just purchased the Nikon Coolpix 5900, which has the same features you're mentioning. I'm just now charging the batteries. I'll let you know how these features work.

I went with the Casio Exilim Z50 instead, but I'm still curious so post those results when you've got them!
