Nikon Coolpix 8800

May 1, 2006 10:44AM PDT

I currently am using a Nikon Coolpix 5700 and have been extremely pleased with the ease of use, features and the photographic results. I was considering getting a Coolpix 8800 which is an 8 megapixel camera and also has image stabilization but find it has been discontinued. That fact doesn't bother me but I have been unable to locate one through the normal eBay and camera store avenues. The Coolpix 8700 IS available but, of course, it does not have the IS feature. I would like to know if Nikon had any great trouble with the 8800 causing them to discontinue it or if Nikon had other reasons.

Thanks,

Joe

It's not only the Nikon 8800 that has disappeared.
Canon G6 and Pro1
Olympus C-7070 and C-8080
All of these cameras are first class and produce excellent photos.

Cameras that are/were priced from $550 to $999 have just about disappeared from the market.

The low priced DSLR cameras are taking over this price bracket. The high priced non-DSLR cameras are being out classed by these DSLR cameras.

It is just the market changing.

Thanks for the replies. I like the 5700 and 8700 so much I just wanted to be sure the 8800 did not have any design flaws or repair issues. Newer models will come and go as the technology evolves. Has anyone had problems with their 8800?

Thanks,

Joe
