I would forget the 5200 as it is being replaced by the 7900 and is likly to sell for about the same price. And the 7900 gives you 7 megapixels.
Nikon recently introduced the 4600, 5600, 7600, 5900, and 7900.
These cameras all appear to be pretty much the same.
There are differences in megapixels, LCD size, battery type. They seem to be trying to cover a range of price groups by mixing and matching components.
There are no reviews of any of these cameras yet.
If you are not in a hurry, I would wait about a month and check out the reviews as they appear.
About AA batteries. Nikon used AA batteries in some cameras so that they fit into a different price bracket. It is cheaper to include two AA batteries with a camera than a Lithium battery with a charger.
All camera makers do pretty much the same thing. They all tell you that they suggest that you use NiMH AA batteries. That means you will have to spend $10 to $20 buying NiMH AA batteries and a charger.
The battery life of NiMH batteries and Lithium is pretty close.
So the real lesson here is:
If you get a camera with AA batteries, add $20 to its price and you arrive at the true price.
Cameras that use AA batteries have a plus side.
If you are out shooting and your batteries run down, you can go to the corner drug store and get some alkaline batteries to tide you over. If you have a Lithium battery and you battery runs down, you are dead in the water (unless you purchased an extra battery at a pretty high price).

I would like to purchase one ofthe Nikon Coolpix 5.1 MP cameras but I am somewhat confused to select between 5200,5600 and 5900. I know that 5200 qnd 5900 come with lithium ion rechargeable batteries where 5600 uses double AA but I am not clear about comparing other features. AA batteries are convenient but I am sure they wont last much. Please help me with a comparison to select one with which I I will buy it with undestanding. Thank you
