4 megapixels and 8.3 X zoom
This was Nikons first try at getting into the long lens market.
When introduced it was priced too high and was never a big seller.
There is nothing wrong with the camera, except that it fell short of what the competition was offering.
It was priced with and being compared to the 10X Canon S1-IS and the Panasonic 12X cameras. Both of those cameras have image stabilizaton and manual controls. And the Nikon only had 8.3X zoom, no image stabilization and no manual controls.
When compared to the competition, the Nikon was fishing in the wrong pond with the wrong bait.
I original price on this camera was $500.
I see now that the price is about $300.
That is more in line with the capabilities of the camera.
Enjoy your purchase, it can produce some fantastic photos.

I have bought a Nikon cool pix recently (2 days) based on the Top ranking given in pcworld. But, reviews in other websites suggest that this is not a good camera. Any user of this camera: Can you please tell me how it is?
