They don't, you jerk
Apr 3, 2020 11:53AM PDT

Islam IS NOT a "terrorist" religion as you call it along with many other idiots. The TERRORISTS have bastardized their own religion in order to have an excuse to kill and spread their garbage around the globe. If you asked these two Americans, they would probably tell you that as many other Islamic believers around the world have said on numerous occasions. Unfortunately, it's people like you who refuse to hear it. And there goes your 'acceptance' and 'tolerance' blowing up in your bigoted face again.

I used two adjectives. You missed the irony,
Apr 4, 2020 9:09PM PDT

so I'll 'splain.
Tactful: "jerk ... idiot ... bigoted"
Informed: I said, <quote> Too bad they belong to a 'terrorist religion'. <end quote>
The single quotes I used indicate that I'm quoting the gist of many comments about Islam. Comments common today on the internet.
You replied, <quote> Islam IS NOT a "terrorist" religion as you call it along with many other idiots. <end quote>
But I did not call it that; you imagined that I did, and responded to that imagined thought. I'm not responsible for anyone's idiocy but mine.

"The TERRORISTS have bastardized their own religion in order to have an excuse to kill and spread their garbage around the globe."
Yes; usually called radical islam. I have a book on the Crusades that shows that Muslims had and have that same take on the 'holy Christian' knights who sacked Jerusalem and then went to Mass with Arab blood still on them. A common occurrence in history, in Ireland, Europe, colonial S. America ...
What Jesus said was that Christians would be known by their love for fellow man. No room for Crusades or even the standing armies of so-called Christian nations. What they bastardized was John 13:34,35.

There are many ideas that Jehovah allows, for the time being; false religion's at the top of the list. He does not "accept" or "tolerate" them. He has us engaged in a warning work before his allowance ends. Just as in the days of Noah. And Jericho. And Jerusalem itself, twice.

Anyway, it was a fun read. I liked the bit about using some sort of alternate ceremony to get the marriage done quickly. I enjoy learning things like that about other people.

saw no irony in your original remark
Apr 4, 2020 10:59PM PDT

all I saw was your bigotry and you tried to backtrack in your second post. There are around 1.8 billion Muslims in the world. only a few thousand can be considered terrorists - if that many.

That's the hazard of digital conversations.

I'll have to be more careful. Thanks for the correction.
I'm afraid "a few thousand" is too low an estimate. If you count the field soldiers under the various branches of radical Islam, there are many thousands there, and cells throughout the world. These include the solo workers getting their direction from internet mullahs. When one runs amok on a London or Paris sidewalk we can all recognize that as terrorism.

'sidewalk'

The gangs in the USA, such as in Chicago, run amok every day and nobody refers to them as terrorists although they should.

"nobody refers to them as terrorists although they should"
Apr 5, 2020 4:07PM PDT

I agree. In fact, when I go to the VA I see posters with a hotline for people- mostly women- to report sexual assaults safely. Never had one myself, but I'll bet it's very scary. Maybe even terrorizing. So, can we identify a terrorist by his Sergeant's stripes? My hospital is part of Kirtland AFB. At 30,000 feet no one can hear you scream.

In fact, that's what I had in mind in my post to mejustsayin. The soldiers I referred to, all over the Middle East, are called terrorists by their opponents.
Here in the relatively safe US of A we usually think only of bearded Arabs as such. Hence the sidewalk reference.
Year or so ago a woman on the S side of Chicago dropped a dime on the gang that perpetrated a nearby shooting. Day later her house was torched with the family inside.

More. I once read about "double-tapping" by terrorists in Syria and such: Blow up a bomb in a shopping mall. Wait for first responders to arrive, then blow up a second. Disgusting. Now I see that the "real" armies- Russia, Syria and such- use it in their bombing and shelling. IF it's still true that medics are off limits for soldiers, then somebody is doing "crimes against humanity", not warfare.

If you actually liked the 'story' so much
Apr 5, 2020 4:52AM PDT

you wouldn't have HAD to ADD your 'two words' to make it a love story. THAT's where your bigotry shows quite plainly.....it was totally UNNECESSARY but you just had to do it anyhow. I stand by my response and you just can't spin your way out of it.

Speaking of which.....
Apr 5, 2020 4:55AM PDT

how many religions or common people refer to the Christian religion as a 'terrorist religion', drp? Even with the histrionics of the Crusades, NOBODY calls it that so what is your REAL point since you are trying to excuse your public bigotry?

- Collapse -
Histrionics. Hah! Now, that's a new one.
Apr 5, 2020 8:09AM PDT

Never heard a scholar use it about the Crusades. I guess you know better.
The British and the Irish are still suffering from IRA "terrorism"- as the British government still calls it.
The Thirty Years War was waged against Catholic and Lutheran civilians as much as soldiers. Scorched earth on both sides.

- Collapse -
I used that term deliberately
Apr 5, 2020 9:06AM PDT

because it defines 'exaggerated' history....not the actions themselves. The Crusades were horrible, but not ALL Christians behaved that way....just as not ALL Muslims/Islamic believers are terrorists although to some, they are.

When I first came in here 2 hours ago, there were 8 posts listed.....I added two of my own at that time, refreshed the page and it had dropped down to 7 which included my 2. What happened to the other three that went missing?

Thanks for reporting Toni

I'm seeing everything intact now. Maybe the page was cached? or maybe you were logged out?

When you are not logged in the pages are cached, but as soon as you are logged in, the pages should not be cached. Anyways everything is here, I just checked the admin tool and nothing is missing or has been deleted.

Hope you and the family are well. Same goes to all of you, be safe all!

BTW will you please forward to my email on file with CNET Jonah Jones' email address to me? He can't contact me either since I changed IP's and lost my address book in the process but responded to me a week or so ago here in SE.

We're all well but cabin fever is getting old. Thank God it's spring here and I can get outside and work in my gardens....not to mention cleaning out five outbuildings that have crap dumped in them everywhere. If nothing else, I can, out of boredom, finally get organized and not keep putting it off.

Sure thing, Toni.

I will forward JJ your email address.

I was going to do yard work this weekend, but it's raining here, oh well dodged another weekend of chores. This is definitely a good time for cleaning out of boredom, however, I'll take boredom over cleaning ;D.

Some personal information that may be of use here.
Apr 5, 2020 7:55AM PDT

Back in Riverside county CA, where I lived when I began studying the Bible, we often met Muslims while door knocking. I never had a bad experience with them. Can't say the same about the nominal Christians I met.
Peter himself said: “Now I truly understand that God is not partial, but in every nation the man who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him."
If I believe that, which goes beyond rote memorization, then I have to act on it, and I do. (Peter needed much convincing to come to that attitude. Acts ch. 10)

I posted the story because it was a nice love story. The added comment was to illustrate that such can come even from members of a maligned religion. I see now that was a bad choice. I'm sorry.

- Collapse -
You're only sorry because
Apr 5, 2020 9:01AM PDT

you got called out on the garbage. You'll probably be sorry the next time you do this as well since you do it so often. In case you haven't noticed it, but perhaps you have since you said this just now "I never had a bad experience with them. Can't say the same about the nominal Christians I met.", you just maligned Christians ONLY because of how they react to YOU and your door to door garbage you spew.

Unfortunately, it's considered to be normal behavior when people are nasty to others and complain about their behavior, it's actually behavior that they themselves have and can't see. Much like the Dems accusing Republicans of something they have are themselves doing as they speak.

So now it's YOUR turn in the barrel

yet another saying I give you permission to use

Definition of (one's) turn in the barrel

noun
a dirty or unpleasant task that one must do since it is part of one's share of the work, and that others have taken their turn doing before them. In the military, it is sometimes referred to doing KP, but in times of combat, might have been used to mean taking on a very dangerous chore such as walking point on recon.

"YOU and your door to door garbage you spew."*
Which is ... the Bible, aka God's word, according to the churches and the introductory pages of your own copy.
'But you have your own false version', some say. As you say, except you're unqualified to say it. Why? "I refuse" was your last response to an invitation to read it. You're quite proud of that. Next time you say that, bring proof. From jw.org.

"Can't say the same about the nominal Christians I met." I was talking about the ones like you, in fact. Vitriol from start to finish.

* That brings your accusation- an unfounded anti-religion statement- within forum no-nos. Doesn't matter to me. We've had worse from heavyweights:
https://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/experiences/faithful/they-wore-purple-triangle/ Germany, a nominally Christian nation.
https://www.jw.org/en/news/jw/region/russia/FSB-Officers-Ransack-Deceased-Brothers-Home-in-Russia/ Russia, a nominally Christian nation.

IF it really didn't matter to you
Apr 6, 2020 2:24PM PDT

you wouldn't have responded.....again with someone else's words and not your own except to point out a 'no-no' according to you.

You should follow your own 'no-no' rules and stop posting bigoted statements, doncha think?

Like I said...if a liberal/Democrat accuses you of something, it's usually something they are doing themselves as they speak/lecture. You've proven my point.
