If you don't care about the two-way radio, Cingular would be a better choice. Problem w/ Nextel phone is that it cannot roam off network but Cingular can roam on any GSM network nationwide. Cingular also offers many more brands/models of phones where Nextel offers Motorola phones only.

One more thought, you could try Cingular for up to 30 days and cancel without contract penalty to see if it suits your needs.

GO WITH ANYONE BUT CINGULAR. THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. I AM A CINGULAR CUSTOMER AND I WILL BE SWITCHING TO VERIZON. ALSO I HAVE BEEN A CINGULAR CUSTOMER SINCE SEPTEMBER 1994.

Nextel vs. Cingular

You will find that Nextel has a strong hold on most service and construction industries. That is because the 2-way radio (direct connect) feature has replaced most of motorola's radios. I use Nextel and I am very happy with the service. Make sure you go to a actual Nextel owned store rather than an authorized reseller. You will get better service and they can explain if you are in a good coverage area. Be very aware of the local vs. nationwide direct minutes and locations. Nextel has come out with some new phones since your original post that are very nice.

Good Luck!

My personal cell is with Cingular and I have a work-issued Nextel. My customer service experience with Cingular has been very good. No experience with Nextel's. Outside of L.A., Cingular has much better coverage. What service do most of the people you call use? If they're mostly ATT/Cingular that would be a better choice because of the free mobile-to-mobile.
