nextech mouse and keyboard

Dec 26, 2003 8:50AM PST

Radio shack had a boxing day special today and I shelled out $29. for a cordless mouse and keyboard that I have installed. It came with no user's manual and I can't find any info on the internet. Both work fine but the keybd has 18 extra buttons with no explanation of what they are for other than the symbols for dummys. The mouse has an interesting feature as well- by pressing down on the wheel a magnifying glass replaces the cursor. I would sure like to find some info - like how do you shut off the power so the batteries don't run down and what do the extra buttons do. Perhaps someone has had a similar problem.

1. What may be described as the magnifying glass could be that feature that allows you to scroll IE with just moving the mouse pointer above and below said symbol. I forget what its called, but this feature showed up about 1998. Play with it.

2. The extra buttons are only enabled with keyboard drivers. BUT I STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST FINDING, MUCH LESS INSTALLING SUCH. You don't want to know how many lost access to their PC over a botched keyboard enhancer.

Your choice, but I'd ignore said buttons.

thanks for the advice - I think I will use it - the advice that is- The magnifying feature is not what you describe - I am familiar with that. This is the same as the magnifying feature that is in some programs where you click on a symbol and you get a magnification that you can move over a pic. It is quite unique and I think it will be useful.

I finally found the help file etc for this new mouse with the strange tricks so fyi it is a nextech and there is a drop down menu that is actuated by the wheel. the menu has 12 function icons, one of which is a magnifier. The magifier window is about 2" by 2" and increases to about 10x.The wheel acts as any other wheel as long as the pressure you put on it is light, but if you press harder the tricks begin. Lotsa fun!
