Next Verizon lineup of phones

Oct 10, 2004 2:22PM PDT

Forgive me if this has already been addressed in previous posts, but no one has answered my questions in leiu of the other discussions...so here goes. I'm looking to upgrade my cell pretty soon. Have used Verizon's service for over 4 years now and am very satisfied with them. However, when I went down to the local VZW store, the man suggested I wait until the new phones come in. He never told me what would come in though...so if anyone has an idea of what's coming and has any suggestions for a good camera/tri-mode phone...please let me know. I'm trying to do my research online both here and at phonescoop.com and haven't really found anything yet. Any help and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

the next VZ phone with camera and tri-mode is going to be the LG VX6100. The Audiovox 9900 is already out there and now through probably atleast january, the only new camera/tri-mode phone is going to be the VX6100. Look it up on phonescoop, seems pretty nice.

I am also a Verizon customer. During the past year, I had many phone failures - partly because the location I use is low on tower strength. After having trouble with 4 Motorolas, which I still consider a great phone, I got an Audiovox 8900. I bought on the net a more powerful battery, and now there are no reception problems. I contacted Motorola since the Verizon store said they would not be carring much other than LG, and Moto said that they have 3 which are apparently due in the VZ stores in November-December. I had 1 LG which lasted about a month - dropped calls everywhere. So maybe part of the problem is that some of the phones are underpowered (battery). Motorola still makes good phones, I think I had some recycled ones that were problems. The Audiovox was new out of the box. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help! I have been avidly reading info on the 6100 and the 9900 on phonescoop.com, and have been impressed by what I've seen so far. That said, the release dates for the 6100 seem to vary according to those posting. Some say the 15th, which is obviously not true...and then now there's the 25th. If this is the case, I'm willing to wait a few more days.

As for the 9900, there are speculations as to the continuation of this model. I was told by a VZW rep in technical support yesterday that Audiovox/Toshiba never made a huge quantity to begin with and that Toshiba would not be making phones for Audiovox in the near future anymore. Due to the fact that Audiovox/Toshiba allowed Verizon to sell them at such a low price, I don't think the 9900 will stay on the shelves much longer. He told me their warehouse only has about 3330 phones left. I just hope that my local VZW store will still have the 9900 on Sunday, when my NE2 takes effect.

Anyone know if there's going to be a flip Palm-based phone added beyond the Kyocera 7135? I'm in the market for one, and I wouldn't mind sticking with Verizon, but I've been eyeing the i500 that Sprint has. If VZW put out a similar phone w/ Palm OS, I'd stay...

Before you buy at your local store, as I did for 6 years, go "on-line" to Verizon.com. The "on-line" store has rebates the local stores don't have. Just got 2 new phones, ordered 1 day....got them the next day.

THanks for the tip on going on line. I have another question... does anyone know the difference between LGVX 6100 and LGVX 7000 and I understand there is a LGVX 8000. Help.... I need to buy something relatively soon. This is a great forum...

The bulkier VX7000 is digital only & the VX6100 is a Tri-mode(works on digital & analog + 1 other system). However the the VX7000 has longer listed talk & standby times.

A new trimode, camera phone is the Motorola V710. I just started checking this phone out, so I don't know a whole lot about it yet.

There are not many new exiting phones comming out so if you bought a new one now it would probably be 2-3 months before something really new comes out. I would recomend buying the MOTO V710 its a greatphone. and will be one of verizons best non PDA format phones.

I was wondering if anyone has had experience with a Motorola v 60 phone? I am in the market to renew and I don't need a bunch of fancy stuff on my phone. Just interested in high talk time and standby time. Any suggestions? By the way, there is a V60 i and a V60 s? anyone know the difference?
Thanks

I hope this isn't too late to help, but I'm brand new to the forum and just saw your plea for help.

I have owned some form of the Motorola v60 for years, as have three other members of my family. It is an excellent phone with a metal case which makes it very sturdy. No bells and whistles, because it is an older phone, but it does its phone-work very well. We have no complaints.

The only difference between the v60i and the v60s is that the v60s has a speakerphone. My son-in-law has one and is very happy with it. He just clips the phone on his visor and drives hands-free; he tells me the sound is fine both ways.

Hope this helps.

I know they now have the Kyocera Slider, but it doesn't have the bells and whistles and I don't know how good it is.
