Question

Next laptop - Win 7 or Win 10??

Oct 18, 2014 3:43AM PDT

I'm going to need a new favorite laptop soon. Should I grab one of the remaining 7's still out there or wait for the new 10's? Any date for the release yet?

This doesn't need to be a heavy duty unit, I'm not a gamer and don't even watch movies on it. Just run of the mill links to the outside world and occasional puppy u-tube vids, etc. And I'm not particularly tech savvy, so I stick with mainstream offerings. Would love suggestions/advice.

Thanks!

Actually Windows 8.1 with Classic Shell is nice too.

But the old advice is always to wait if you can.

There's a windows 10 forum here too. You can already download an evaluation copy of 10 and give it a spin. Safest is to install VPC2007 or Oracle's VM virtualbox program and install windows 10 in either on a virtual hard drive. You can google and wiki them both to understand how that works. I have it installed on VMware from Oracle, running on Linux Mint 17, and so far w10 is definitely better than windows 8 or Vista, bit more streamlined than 7.

If you need to pull the trigger soon then w7 will give you another 5 yrs of support.
Doubt the laptop will last that long.
