News Sites Videos Won't Play in Firefox or Chromium

Feb 17, 2011 7:50PM PST

I have Ubuntu 10.10 with all the updates. I also have the latest version of the Adobe Flash plug-in. Videos at the news sites will not play. BBC News says I "don't have the correct version," but I do. It's installed. FOX News just gives me a black triangle.

There are a couple of other non-working quirks, which work fine in my XP system, but I'll start with these. Any help will be much appreciated.

Are you posting these issues in Ubuntu forums and it's bug reporting system?

Only searched

No. I only searched their Forum and tried what I found, which didn't help. So I thought I'd try here.

There is no real reason to report bug about this to Ubuntu

Flash is developed by Adobe corporation so he should complain to them (adobe.com) about it.

Why yes there is.

As Ubuntu is considered to be user friendly, if they need to upgrade or add an install document, this is where you start. If it's wrong they'll tell you.

SOLVED -- Thank You All

After a groggy hour or so, I found an add-on called Flash-Aid. Watching it run, I could see that it had to uninstall something and then install something afterward. Anyway, it worked very well, and all of the problems I had had with Firefox plug-ins are now presently solved.

Clever.
