Question

Newly built pc won't turn on

Aug 27, 2017 9:10AM PDT

Hi

I've just built a pc, but it won't turn on. The only thing that lights up when I plug it into the wall is an LED in the front IO. This LED also stays on for a while after turning the PSU off again... Besides that nothing happens at all when I press the power button: no fans, ... nothing, it's a lifeless pc.

I've tested other ram slots, replugged the 8 pin and 24pin connectors, an other psu, double checked the front io connections...

There are also no lights lighting up on the motherboard. Like it gets no power? (Still the pwr LED lights up in the front as soon as the pc is plugged in the wall)

Could it be a bad powercord or a dead motherboard out of the box?

I dont know what to do anymore...

Parts:
MSI b150 pc mate
Core i5 7500
Crucial lpx ddr4 2133 ram (2x4)
Psu: Seasonic 520w psu
Gtx 1060 3G

I need help fast!

MSI boards have no jumpers on them
Aug 29, 2017 2:36PM PDT

I've checked a lot of MSI mobo photos and I cant find any anywhere with a jumper close to the Cmos.
How can I know that voltage?

Power

On a piece of cardboard.
Psu+mobo+cpu/hsf.
NOTHING else connected or plugged in.
Use a small metal object and short the power switch pins on the mobo for a sec.
If it does not power up your down to 3 parts.
Measure or replace the cmos battery.
Check the mobo jumpers.

What is kth?

Does the b150 pc mate have jumpers? Haven't found any or am I so blind... Have tried on cardboard with only cpu ram and psu so... I'm out of suggestions.

Your not following directions.

I listed 3 parts.
The ram is not one of those parts.

Look in the mobo manual for jumpers.

I can't be sure but it appears

You are starting with too many parts on the motherboard box (also known as a cardboard build.)

The OTHER common gaffe is the 1x 8-pin ATX 12V power connector. Many folk connect the power connection and forget the second power connection.

That aside, I went out got the manual at http://download.msi.com/archive/mnu_exe/E7971v2.2.zip

There are possible issues if JBAT1 is jumped. Troubleshooting on page 76 noted both these.

I never changed any jumpers

I'll check the cmos jumper, but I've never changed things... And by the 1x8 cable you mean the cpu power right? The cpu power is for sure in place.

I thought the ATX 12V was the 2x4 configuration.

And we never assume jumpers are good when the boards are unpacked.

If you have an 1x8 I'm looking at the wrong board.

No my psu has a 2x4 connector for the CPU power

Or what do you mean?

In past

some motherboards shipped with the CMOS jumper on the wrong two pins, which gave similar symptoms you experienced. Imagine your job every day before mobo ships is putting that jumper on the right two pins. The temptation.....Oh, the temptation.....on a bad day.

So with the jumper on wrong pins it has no chance to turnon?

Does this explain why the PWR led lights up as soon as power is connected?
