In my book it's far too hard to get (win)modems and USB DSL/Cable modems to work in Linux. So the easy out is to install a DSL/CABLE ROUTER which is from 20 to 40 bucks at geeks.com or newegg.com
This lets the router do the PPPoE and deal with the login to the ISP and lets you just connect.
As to the printer, there is far too much on the web about that. Try LINUX PRINTING on google.com

I have been exploring a live knoppix cd, and linspire cd. So far I like the knoppix, but have run into some things I need help with. I am a fairly experienced Windows user and I am looking for an alternative.
Linux is definately different. I've been browsing the forum and have picked up some tips so far. I'm trying to get online with Knoppix, but am having some problems. I use a Westell dual mode modem to connect to dsl, I don't have an ethernet connection, so I use the usb connection. How can I configure my connection in Knoppix? I get the message that there is no ethernet card, which I already know. I need to download the driver somehow, my modem light is not lit when in Knoppix. My connection is a PPPoE. Also, how do I install my printer? I know these may be silly questions, but that's where I am right now on this journey.
Thanks for any help.
