Newbie req. help buying 1st external HD

Sep 3, 2006 5:40PM PDT

Hello,

I want to buy my first external harddrive but I'm not sure of which brand and model to buy. I know that I need between 120gb and 250gb. I definitely want the external HD to have a firewire and USB connection. I want to go with a reputable company that's known for making great external hardrives. Also, the quiter the HD, the better. I'm pretty picky when buying electronics so any advice or links to websites that review HDs would be great.

I also wanted to mention that I am using the hard drive to back up my video files.

It's not a backup unless it has more than 1 copy (more devices) and write protection.

I just get the usual case with fan and plug a drive in. I'm not happy with premade units since you can't count on their cooling design.
