Newbie question about Sony E-reader

I am about to purchase a Sony 6 inch e-reader so I decided to do some homework. The sales assistants, unfortunately, cannot answer any questions other than "How much?"

I have a very basic question: I went to the Gutenberg project and downloaded n epub book to my laptop. I notice that the downloaded file does not show the name of the author or the title of the book. Do I have to rename it myself before I transfer it from my laptop to the e-reader or is it done automatically by the e-reader during the transfer? Thanks in advance for all help.

Sorry.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Reader
Lists half a dozen models but in each one I think I read epub and PDF.

As to naming a file, forgive me but it is rarely automatic and should not be a big deal if we need to do that ourselves.

well if it's like my wife's kindle files

we're new at this too, but all the ebook files have their own filename. since we do this via usb and not wi-fi, we decided to rename the files for our own use. otherwise we can't tell what from what.

Naming files for eReader

I have just discovered that no naming is required for eReader but required if you keep copies on your laptop/desktop. For example: If you download Butler's translation of Homer's Iliad from Project Gutenberg, the dowloaded file is called pg2199.epub. However, when you transfer it to the eReader it appears on the eReader as "Homer - The Iliad - Samuel Butler Translation". If you wish to keep the copy on your laptop you may wish to rename because after a while pg2199.epub could be anything.
