Hello all. My wife and I are not new to taking pictures, but are new to DSLR cameras. She has wanted to upgrade for a while now, and for christmass I got her a Pentax K20. The question I had is one of her facebook friends has a Nikon D90 and she loves the pictures it takes, will the Pentax be as good?? I chose the pentax for a couple of reasons one being the weather proof ability, and the other the lens selection and pricing. As I have said I am COMPLETELY new to cameras any technical info given will need a bit of an explanation.

Thanks in advance

Buying a DSLR camera is a win win proposition.
When it comes to rating DSLR cameras, there is little difference between any of the brands of cameras.

The December 2008 issue of Consumer Reports magazine rated a large number of DSLR cameras.

They rated the Pentax K200D and K20D as "very good"

They rated the Nikon D80 as "very good".
Note: The D90 is the new replacement for the D80.
I would assume it would rate the same.

No DSLR was rated better than "very good" (the next highest rating would be "excellent").

So, you now have a fine tool for taking pictures.
It is up to you and your wife to take some memorable photographs.

The camera will only put out as good of photos as the person behind the camera is able to produce. If your wife or you have not had any photography exposure then I would suggest to take some classes in the community or school. You can't buy great photos(buying a DSLR), but you can learn how to produce great photos. To that end, the K20 is a very good DSLR and will be better in producing photos than you are....I know, my 30D is still better than me.
