I am so glad to be the first person commenting to you about such an issue! I have owned EVERY device that you have named and i assure you that the zune IS the BEST out of the four. Equalizer is not an issue because the audio quality is perfect! Video pixels? Not for me! Video quality surpasses the other three greatly! Buy a zune! It IS your best choice!
I'm in the market for a new player. I currently am the happy owner of a Cowon G3 1GB - but alas, it's time for a capacity upgrade.
My principle priorities are
1: Sound quality (I'm looking for a player that integrates lossless formats easily)
2: Screen quality (Size is important, but takes a second seat to audio)
3: Podcast support and easy integration
5: Video-out support
So after extensive reviewing of the major brands and available products, the following products have risen to the top of a very long list: Zune 80, Cowon D2, Creative Zen 16 (32?), and Samsung YP-P2 8.
Here are my concerns...
While I would prefer a flash device, I am not averse to the HDD of the Zune because it seems to offer the best GUI , largest screen, WMA lossless support, and WiFi integration (which is a nice bonus). The main downsides for the Zune are the potentially pixelated screen (320x240 at 3.2in and 64k colors?) vs the higher relative resolutions and bit-rates of the other three products and the lack of an equalizer. The D2 and Zen are attractive due to their superb audio fidelity (but Zen only supports WAV lossless) and media expansion. However, I don't really 'need' a touch screen, and the thickness of the Cowon and the lack of easy podcast integration deters me. Also with a maximum capacity of 8GB, the D2 and P2 seem a bit under-equipped. The Zen looks good, but the fact that SD files are separated from the main file-management directory is a real drag.
Oh, and without a question I'd take the Zune over the Ipod C80 and the D2 over the Touch.
