New XP installation

Mar 9, 2004 2:32AM PST

I have an adequate 2+ year old E-machine, which came with Windows ME. I really got tired of the instability and recently purchase Windows XP-Professional. The installation worked well, but I have one problem. I'm sure this is a simple fix that someone with more experience will recognize. XP shuts the system down when I go on the internet. I get a message and it shuts down in 60 seconds then restarts. Does anyone have any suggestions.

This sounds very much like the Blaster Worm.

Thanks, I followed the link and this is exactly what is happening. I'm assuming that I didn't previously have a problem because the virus doesn't affect Windows ME. I'm on a different computer now but will hopefully get this fixed this evening.
