" You need at least 1024 X 768 screen resolution for Metro apps to work. The Windows apps will not work in screen resolution less than 1024 X 768. "
It's widely discussed so try the workaround noted at http://superuser.com/questions/396846/force-windows-8-metro-apps-to-run-lower-resolutions-below-1024x768

My Old Gateway Monitor (FPD1775W TFT LCD 1280x720) worked fine with my old Dell Vista PC. But I recently upgraded to an HP 500-424 with Windows 8.1 and I'm having problems. When initially setup, the PC set the mon res to 1280x1024 - the recommended setting. But the text was blurry, Pics and video looked squeezed from top to bottom, and images got cropped off the screen. I tried other settings but it only looked good at the monitor's default res of 1280x720. However, at this setting, none of the "apps" will open. I get an error that resolution is too low. Besides getting a new monitor or constantly changing the resolution, is there any work-around? Thanks!
