New Widescreen LCD Problem!

by jiangw / June 3, 2004 2:11 PM PDT

Just got a SHARP LL-M17W1 widescreen lcd tv monitor which should have resolution of 1280x768, but I can not find this resolution from the video property panel, the largest one I have is 1024x768.

I have a Compaq Presario 2800t laptop, the screen resolution is 1400x1050. The video card is MOBILITY RADEON 7500, 32MB, and I have installed the lasted video drive download form Compaq site.

How can I get the 1280x768 resolution in the video property, or my video card don't support widescreen at all? can i correct this by using some other video drive?

As supplied, the OS is installed from "restore CDs" and such works fine. I know this to be true on the Compaq.

If you install the OS yourself, you'll have to ask the makers what drivers to use. Hint: you need a driver for the video and a .INF for the display.

Thanks, but i don't really understand the replay...

My laptop came with the xp home edition and I install the professional edition by myself, do you mean this could be why the video card don't give me a widescreen resolution? do you think i could solve the problem by reinstall the orignal OS?

thanks again!

That's NEW information!

You didn't reveal that so I didn't know.

Installing an OS from scratch will strain users. Even moreso on laptops.

I should have noted that not only is the Video driver at issue, but you need a MONITOR.INF to describe that your display is of such a size.

My BIG QUESTION IS THIS -> Why not just upgrade that OS so you step over all the drive issues?
