Resolved Question

New WD HD

Feb 17, 2015 1:07AM PST

Hi,

Bought a new WD HD (Blue, whatever that means) and used the recommended Acronis to clone it from my win8.1 500gb hd.

I click clone, starts & hangs on "Queued" with nothing happening for hrs.

Is this normal?

I tried EaseUS Todo with no luck also.

I cannot find anything to format it first & then try clone again.

How do you format hd's now a day.

Although shows up as "0" in HD. Management it does not on show in win Explorer.

Tried to use my win8 dvd but did not even open.

WD site wants money for me to ask.

Can you help please? .....thanx .....nick

New WD HD

SOLVED

Thanx all,
in desperation went & doubled clicked again the new HD in disk manager & clicked a "New Sample Wizard" where I found "format" .
I did it in ntfs, rebooted & for some reason, probably clicked something in 4-5 previous attempts, & Akronis Loader appeared in blue screen & all went fine, within 20mnts the clone completed & now I type this in my new HD.
All this after 11 hrs trials. ..........nick

Answer
Check BIOS
Feb 17, 2015 1:26AM PST

In the bios check to disable/uncheck UEFI status. If worded differently, then also include any bios protection scheme. Then retry your clone s/w. I would also suggest beforehand to check the status of the type of original HD format present, if this in GPT format, that too can cause problems. You should elsewhere format the new HD in GPT format, not install anything and when done, then do the above.

FYI- Win8.x is hard at times to do anything, but if you had other problems prior to any of the above, make sure that's corrected or resolved.
