new video card for old dell dimension 2400

by mosjc / January 31, 2009 3:09 AM PST

so, i have an old dell dimension 2400 that i want to get a new video card for. the computer only has pci ports, so that's my only option. i'm not looking to do any gaming on the computer, just want to hook it up to my new 26 inch hdtv. right now when it is hooked up the resolution is really low and things get stretched on the screen. does anyone have any suggestions for a good video card upgrade? i'm not sure if it makes a difference, but the computer only has 256mb ram (which i will upgrade at some point)

thanks for the reply, but i'm not looking for an adapter, just a recommendation for a new video card with a PCI interface (not PCI express) that will give me better resolution for the computer

None would be a happy solution.

After dozens of such hookups I'm having the happy results to be this connection -> PC with HDMI to HDTV.

Anything else and you hear the owners gripe about image quality, black bars, aspect ratio issues, circles that are not circles and more.

Hope this sets your expectation level proper.
