New video Card

May 24, 2005 1:52PM PDT

I've installed a new PCI video card GeForce FX 5200 on my PC P4 2GH 1GB RAM, INTEL 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV followed all the instructions and everything work fine until the "blue welcome". At this stage I have no image at all. I've checked "on board video graphics" has been desabled. Can somebody tell me what I missed? Tx

Was this done in BIOS? To do this you hook your monitor to onboard vga and disable the onboard graphics then make sure the primary is AGP then save settings reboot and switch your monitor to the FX5200 card. John

You say you installed a PCI video card rather than a AGP card, so I assumed you already checked and there is no AGP slot in your motherboard. The Intel

Yes, in some and in old motherborards there is a switch or jumper that needs to be activated. Don't know which motherboard you have and I can't advise you as I have never run into that situation. Look at your mobo manual or go to its site and inquire, or do a Google.

PS...I can't vision anyone putting a
PCI card in when there is a more capable AGP slot available.

Curious, did you go to the BIOS or to the 'Device Manager' to disable the on board graphics?

In the BIOS setup did you see a setting called ''Primary Video Adapter'' or something similar?
As I understand... the graphics is not disabled there, but...

Getting to the BIOS is different than getting to the device manager and disabling the on board graphics.

Couple or so ways to Device manager:

At desktop click 'START' and Settings/Control Panel
find the 'SYSTEMS' icon and double click it.
Click the DEVICE MANAGER button and disable the onboard graphics.
or in XP....
Right click My computer>
select Properties>
Hardware>
device manager

Getting to BIOS you did.......

I disabled onboard display adapter first on Device Manager, then on BIOS checked PCI.
