New Verizon Phones

May 9, 2004 12:07PM PDT

I am interested in switching to Verizon in the next month or so but I am hesitant because they should come out with new phones soon. Can anyone tell me what/when phones should be out? Also, is it safe to assume that any CDMA phone being released in the US is Verizon?

The next model coming out, is the LG3200. A nice phone. It's got color screen, speaker phone and the "Get it now" features. It's all digital I believe.

CDMA is used by Verizon Yes but Sprint uses it too. Nothing wrong with CDMA, Qualcom makes the technology. They are a great company and the financials are growing. If you research Cellular. You'll see it being said, that companies will eventually migrate to a "wide band Cdma". I find that interesting.....Hope that helped

Verizon is supposed to start carrying a new Motorola phone (V710) by the end of May. This is a clam-shell phone with bluetooth. It is very similar to the Motorola V600 that AT&T just added to their line. If you got to hellomoto.com you can do a search for the V710 to get the specs. This is a legit US phone, but will likely be rather expensive when it first comes out.

Bluetooth is important to me, and only Motorola seems to be putting much into developing nice phones with this technology. If you aren't familiar with it, this feature allows for wireless communications with the phone for things like a totally wireless earpiece or for synching up with a computer to download phone numbers.

I have Sprint now and have absolutely hated every waking second that I have been under contract with them. After doing lots of research, Verizon seems to have the best mix of coverage and good customer service. Fortunately they are also adding some nice phones to the mix.

I have been trying to get on-broad with Bluetooth so I can better utilize my PocketPC and Laptop, but I have had a confusing time with carries info (ad's, websites ...)None just coming right out and say "Bluetooth Compatible", especially Sprint. Unfortunantely, my wife and kids have Sprint phones (unlimited Sprint-to-Sprint service.) But you think Verizon should satisfy what I've been looking for????

Chris,
Glad I saw your message. I too have had nothing but problems with Sprint. I am in the Chicago Area. Have always had only one phone. Now that my wife is working I want two phones and need about 500 minutes a month between us. I am thinking of switching to Verizon but waiting for the best deal. I only need a basic phone for my wife and since I am hard of hearing I need a good speaker phone. I wonder if you could give me any sugestions.

hop on the bandwagon! verizon is the only way to go... most of the summer "deals" for are out at the moment... take a look at the website to get more info. as for phones, i know for a fact that the motorola v60s has an amazing speakerphone... but the phone has no extra features to play with... a good phone for talking and nothing else... if you want some bells and whistles on the phone i would have to suggest either the LG VX3200 or the VX4500 ...

I wouldn't go for the VX4500, The phone gets hot when you talk on it for 10 minutes and if you live in a very rural area, you may not get reception since there is no analog roaming. I returned my VX4500 due to the heat issue and got the Motorola V60S. I have not used the VX3200 but the VX6000 is a great phone but still has no analog roaming which could be considered a minus.

Here's the latest phone calendars from CTIA. Verizon uses Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Audiovox, LG, & Kyocera.

It's not safe to assume CDMA=Verizon. Sprint is CDMA too. Most of the time products will appear at both Verizon and Sprint.....but not always.

Sprint and Verizon do use CDMA. So do US Cellular and Alltel. Only Sprint uses CDMA 1900mhz while the other providers use CDMA 800/1900mhz. You might also see 1900mhz as 1.9ghz. Same thing. The phones have the same feratures, but the only difference would be any software that is programmed in it to use for a specific carrier. That would have to do with network coverage. Maybe someone might be able to answer that one better, but that might be the only difference. Otherwise the features are the same.

hi. they are coming out with new LG VX7000, they told me that the date has not been set yet. It is a direct competition model to sprint's samsing a680 which video-recording capability (15 sec). but i think it does not look as cool as samsung but i might be wrong because i only have seen it in the picture. you can search on ebay, and it's selling for .um......a lot. like really a lot. i can not afford it. I also think that it maybe looks pretty nice in reality.

Heyyy yeah I picked up the phone today and I must say that it truly is a very slick phone.. its hella big unlike the samsung and what not but the features are better and the color screens are very vibrant. This is a great upgrade for the vx 6000 which I had until I purchansed this phone today. Go get it! Grin

YOU CAN TELL FOR SURE ITS VERIZON.. I WORK THERE AND VERIZON USES CDMA.. AS WELL AS SPRINT.. BUT VERIZON IS ONE OF THE TOP RATINGS

Verizon Wireless HIGH =72 LOW =69 Consistently at the top of the Ratings. One of the better companies for customer support. No noteworthy service problems.
AT&T Wireless HIGH=69 LOW=63 One of the better companies for customer support. Overloaded circuits in three cities; Otherwise, middle-of-the-road performance.
Nextel 67 62 Availability of service an issue in New York and Los Angeles. Most billing problems. Low score for customer support.
T-Mobile 67 62 Connection problems in Chicago and New York. One of the better companies for customer support. Company formerly known as VoiceStream.
Cingular 67 54 The greatest variation in scores. Problems with overloaded circuits. Low score for customer support.
Sprint PCS 65 58 Worst customer support. Dropped calls an issue in five of six areas.

COVERS MORE AREAS THAN ANYONE ELSE.. SO I BASICALLY KNOW THAT MY PLANS ARE WORTH FOR PAYING FOR. I KNOW IT ISN'T THE BEST PLANS.. BUT THE SIGNAL IS WUTS IMPORTANT
