New USB Flash Drive shows as Read only

May 3, 2013 2:16AM PDT

Hi -- I just purchased a new Verico Evolution MkII 64GB USB flash drive. However, it will not allow me to save any files to it. Diagnostics info through "Get Info" indicates that the drive is "Read Only". I am running OSX10.6.8. Is there a way I can re-configure this drive? Thanks!

Many flash drives have a switch
May 3, 2013 2:42AM PDT

Have you looked to see if your flash drive has a write protect switch? Some do. If yours does, try setting it in the other position and see if you can write to it then.

Good luck.

USB Flash Drive Write-protect switch
May 5, 2013 11:44PM PDT

Hi - thanks for your suggestion -- my drive does not have a write-protect switch; good to know that some drives may have this however. I was able to reformat my drive from NTSF to an OS X format using Disk Utility - something I was not aware was possible with a flash drive.

That's NTFS for you.

Why not format it again with an apple file system?
