NEW Update File released for HT-BD1250

by rotorhead250 / October 1, 2009 3:10 AM PDT

I just noticed that Samsung released a new version of their update file for the BD1250, dated today 10-1-09. I imagine some software engineer got back from vacation today, and probably had a coronary when he realized that they inadvertently released a un-finished update on 9-30-09, while he was on vacation.

Unfortunately, this does not help everybody here that has had their Blu Ray player "bricked" by the last update. I have yet to see anybody post a message that the update actually worked.

Does anybody have any ideas what we can do collectively to apply pressure unto Samsung to get this resolved. Unfortunately I don't think that yelling at them over the phone is going to work.

NEW Update File released for HT-BD1250
by Samsung_HD_Tech Samsung staff / October 1, 2009 3:48 AM PDT

I saw that this morning, and I've already reported it. I'm so sorry about this, and I'm going to do everything I can to remedy this.

If you want to "apply pressure", call 800-SAMSUNG and report that you're having problems. I've advised one of our product specialists to collect this information. Yelling not preferred, of course, but a simple "hey, I'm having this problem with the update" should suffice.

BD-1250T firmware V2.06
by gregneff / October 1, 2009 4:47 AM PDT

The download page on the Canadian Samsung website offers the following file:

This looks like a V2.06 update, tagged with the date September 14, 2009.

The file inside the archive is:

According to WinZip, the .RUF file was modified on September 28, 2009.

Also available from the download site is a .PDF file that provides generic instructions on how to install the update.

Nowhere in the documentation, or on the website, is there any information on the reason(s) for the update.

What changes with this firmware release, so I can decide if it?s worth the risk to install it?

Why is the .RUF file modification date inconsistent with, and later than, the date tag in the filename?

That would have to be addressed by the Service Center in that region. I wouldn't even be able to answer that for a U.S. firmware.

"Bricked" BD1250 after Firmware Update
by ThePegasys / October 1, 2009 4:51 AM PDT

I must have been one of those poor souls that got a "bricked" player ( very apt and clever description, btw... Wink ) after updating the firmware late in the evening on Sept. 29 (PST).

My solution was to take it back to Best Buy and exchange it for a new unit. When I walked in carrying just the main unit, the employee at the door said, "What? Another one?" When I go to the Customer Care counter, I could see 2 open BD1250 boxes sitting on the back shelf. After they took a new box from the store shelf and opened it to exchange my main unit, there were 3 open boxes on the back shelf.

* Qudos to Best Buy for not making us bring in all the installed speakers and accessories to make the exchange.

So... I guess that sorta gives us an idea of how wide spread the issue must be.

I've been hunting on-line for the past 2 days for any official word as to what was the cause... and extent... of this issue. I'm also looking for an offical notice that its now safe to allow the firmware update. I've had to instruct everyone in the house to say NO!!! when the update message pops up.

So... is the new... new firmware update now safe to install?

I just called Samsung
by rotorhead250 / October 1, 2009 5:31 AM PDT

So I just talked to Samsung again.... I had to chew on the guy on the other end a little (a necessary evil sometimes), I know it's not his fault. Anyways he is emailing me a prepaid shipping label to send it off to get warranty work done. He also stated that my unit was still under warranty (it is), however he did not seem concerned I didn't have my receipt anymore (I don't). Unfortunately, he and everybody else still has no clue about what is going on.

As far as being brave enough to d/l the new new update.... good luck

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
