New TV won't show photos

Jul 10, 2011 1:53AM PDT

My new LG 37LE5310 is supposed to be able to show a slideshow of digital photos on a USB key.
However it refuses to show any photographs which have been modified by a photo-editing software. Only photos in their original state will open.
LG are telling me that this is not their problem, and that the photo-editing software (photoshop elements 4) must have "added atrributes that make the file incompatible".

Should I accept this as an answer?!!

I think so.

LG didn't write elements so let's find out more.

Go get IRFANVIEW and show one of those pictures with that. Press the i key and then post that result on photobucket.

Post a link to that information here and I'll get an email noting you added more details.

Remember a HDTV is
Jul 16, 2011 12:41AM PDT

1. 1080pd or 1920 by 1080 pixels.
2. Is not a PC so can run out of memory.

Both picture's pixel counts are far beyond 1920x1080 so the little computer in the TV has to resize the images to fit. The clues are there that these are pressing the limits of the computer inside the HDTV.

The clue between image 1 and 2 is the color count. If you write image processing code you know that this affects how much memory your image conversion routine would take.

To get these to display I'd use IRFANVIEW and batch convert them all down to 1920x1080 at 51% or better quality.

Why 51%? It's noted widely and here's just one -> http://www.roytanck.com/2007/07/12/photoshop-jpeg-quality-51-trick/

Success

Hi again,

Yes have done all that and I can see all the photos. Thank you so much.
I was previously sure that the file size was irrelevant but I must have been mistaken.
And I like the way Irfanview lets you do something to loads of files at once!
So I have learned lots today.

Thanks

Good to read. That 51% or better is one I'm using more and

It's pretty amazing the detail over a 1% setting at times.

Resolution is not relevant

I'm pretty sure that this is not the reason. I had exactly the same problem with images modified with Photoshop elements but all other pictures of similar size were fine. I simply rotated them clockwise and then anticlockwise (just with Windows explorer) and they are now displaying perfectly. I suspect that Hester's solution was not resizing the images but saving them from Irfanview.

Nice find.

Such would cause a re-write of the JPEG header so yet another solution.

Thanks!
