New to Mac

Oct 6, 2007 3:23PM PDT

Ok so i bought a used G4 (867Mhz 512RAM) and got OS X Tiger Running on it fine i guess? i don't know much about Mac's

Anyway I bought a KVM to use so that i can just switch between my PC and Mac and use the same keyboard and mouse. But i have an issue of getting the disc drive open. Does anyone know how to get the drive open without a mac keyboard. I can get it open by running iTunes and ejecting the disc but i was hopping for an easier way.

I have a Logitech Media Keyboard Elite and a Logitech MX?518 Gaming-Grade Optical Mouse. Neither the keyboard or the mouse has mac software but the do work in the system but not with all the extra keys i like to use. Thanks for any help Pat

Try these,

There are a couple ways to skin this cat.

1. The F12 key, if held down for a few seconds, should cause the cd try to eject. By design, it takes a longer push to prevent it from being opened accidentally. At least that is what the Apple site says. On my G4, running Tiger, it launches Dashboard Widgets!

2. With any window open, choose View > Customize Toolbar. Then drag the Eject icon onto the top of the window. I also like to have Get Info, Delete and New Folder on the window toolbar. These options then appear on every open window.
However, it does seem as though this method will only work if there is a disk in the drive, which is not currently your problem.

The iTunes method was going to be #3 but you already know that one.

Let us know if #1 works

So i tried #1 and it opened widgets like you said it might and i did step two. But i also found this cool program on the apple site that lets you program your mouse buttons. Its called Steermouse 3.7 on the driver download page. i set the app button on my mouse to be the eject button.

I have never used Macs before so its all new to me but i will learn a lot i know that thanks for the help
