You'll love it.
I have a desktop with XP and a laptop with XP. I got cable and then built this network:
D-link Cable modem DCM-200 (DSL modems available);
D-link DI-614+ Wireless router (has 4 Ethernet ports and 4 wireless ports);
D-link DFE-530TX+ NIC for the desktop;
D-link DWL-650 wireless PCMCIA NIC for the laptop.
Desktop NIC wired to the router with the Ethernet cord, laptop using wireless.
The good thing about getting matching components is that they recognize each other and the installation went flawlessly. So easy I didn't learn anything!! Wife carries the laptop around the house. Blistering speeds. I found all the components around the NET and got the router and wireless PCMCIA NIC for under a hundred. The modem will be around fifty or so. Or you can find all of them at the D-link site.
Also great support from D-link.
Good luck.
I just signed up for verizon dsl(YAY!) This is a big thing because this is almost impossible to get since I live in the sticks. The people are comming to put it in next week and I wanted to make sure I had everything I needed for it. I have a windows xp amd athalon 2200 + with a network card and plenty of usb ports. My mom has a laptop running windows 98 with usb ports and a network card. Our problem(i am sure this has been asked before sorry) is that we will only get one modem with the deal so I assume that I have to get one of these wireless routers so that we can both use the connection. However I am completely unfamiliar with them. What do you think we need to get our setup up and running? My preference would be to have to modem in my room connect to the router and my moms laptop using the wireless connection. One more thing, what do we need to by so that she could go around the house with her laptop and use the internet and possible something for my xbox? Thank you for you time i know that you guys get millions of these a day and I really appreciate what you do. thanks again,
daviv
