New to camcorders

I have never used a camcorder before but want to buy one to use on holiday this year. I have been looking at a Sony HC19 which seems adequate for my use and at a reasonable price. Has anybody any advice about this?
Also when I buy the camcorder, what other stuff do I need? Do they come with battery chargers? Will I need extra batteries? How long can I get out of a battery and how long do they take to charge up? Do I need to buy a spare? Will I need a light or will it be good enough on its own at night. Will I just be able to plug it into my TV to watch it? Do I need to buy some software to put it on my computer? Can I then transfer it on to a DVD? How difficult is editing for a novice?
Answers to any of the above would be appreciated
