new to broadband

we recently were able to connect to a satellite broadband ,in the past our dialup service provider supplied,virus protection, anti spam,junk mail ,and popupblockers. we have a router installed and use a notebook in other locations,our system isxp.we are not to swift on the computers. we would like to have at least the same protection. are we talking installing muitiple program? if so what are some names? tks ed
