Nostalgia

Great article. Takes me back.

I also remember coming across a bunch of emulators several years ago that ran some of these old games on the Mac and then they became hard to find. I assumed companies like Atari cracked down on the sites that posted them - not that they were doing anything at the time to bring them back or make money from them.

Ahhhh, the good ol' days ...

I used to play Winter Games all the time, along with Summer Games. I can't forget the guy in the rocket pack flying around the stadium. Happy

Thanks for the memories Tom!

Classic99 is a good emulator, nice article Tom. Nice to look back on those old games. Also kind of scary about how old, how fast you get. Enough about that.

One place I used to go for all my classic gaming was: http://www.classicgaming.com/

They have cleaned up a bit over the years, but in their early days, they had everything free for downloads, emulators and all. Now you have to dig around a bit for them. If anyone is interested, drop me a line. There's nothing like a good go at Tunnels of Doom.

CCS64 is the best and I know you are not supposed to play the games you don't own, which is no problem, because in those days, I bought all the games I like, still have, and now have the emulator for them.

Back in the days when it wasn't PC vs. Apple! oh the poor assimilation of Apple into a PC nowadays, it's just a matter of time people =)

no, I'm not Dvorak...

Ahh memories....

Great Column, Tom! I have fond memories of spending way too much time on my school library's TRS-80 (teaching myself basic) and tooling around an Apple IIe(Hot Dog Stand!) before getting my own Commodore 64. I also remember Winter and Summer games as well as Marble Madness and Dr. J Vs. Larry Bird (before EA became an evil Monopoly), Monopoly(speaking of), Zork, and a host of other games that I probably still have, come to think of it.

Anyway, the column reminded me this site I fairly recently heard of: http://c64s.com/
It has a bunch of playable C64 games done in Java. There are a few that I would love to see(no Lode Runner or the aforementioned Games series) that they don't have, but there is a pretty notable list playable. Now, whether it's legal or not, I don't know so enjoy it while you can.

Great List

I remember many of them fondly. But you missed the Coleco Adam! probably due to its relative obscurity... but because I had one, it's near and dear to my heart.

take a look:

I especially like the cassette tape drive, no OS, and 64K of RAM!! Smokin'!!!

I was a big fan of "The Attack" on the TI. Great game.
