Question

new ps3 buffering with 100%, excellent signal strength

Feb 19, 2012 12:52AM PST

I purchase a Ps3 for my kids for Christmas this year. They love it and it is fun for the whole family. When I stream movies to it from my pc, I get a lot of buffering though. My Pc has 8 gigs of Ram. 2 dual core zeon 3.0 ghz prosessors. The 3 TB hard drive I store media on is on a Usb 3.0 interface. The router I am using is a Linksys N ultra Range Plus. The playstation has a connection with 100% signal strength to the router. Please help.

Answer
Seems proper in most setups. Why?

For example if the source is wifi and the client is wifi we get much less than half of the wifi link budget.

Has anyone told you about how wifi is shared space and what happens when we wifi stream from the PC to the client all on wifi? It's not pretty.

not too sure

I am working on a degree in network admin, but am only in my first year. I am a newbie and do not know anythng about what you mentioned in your post.
Today I tried uninstalling TVersity media server and tried using Windows media server to see if that would help. It did not. I do have a number of devices on my network. Does that make a difference? And if it does, could I run a straight cable from one of the ports on my existing router to the "internet in" port on another router? and just use the second router strictly for serving the ps3? I am just guessing now.

Think of the common fireman bucket brigade.

Now for wifi that bucket brigade they have to do that all the way back to the fire station and then out of the station to the fire and back.

And the fire station only has a door big enough for one bucket at a time.

Get some of the links wired and it should get a little better.
