new phone or old (tech advice)

i have had a nokia 5185i..a real 'classsic'..i have had it along with varizon wireless..for years..is there any way to 'coax this puppy' along for another few years? i do not need 'bells and whistles'..i had varizn do an internal software update recently..which they actually did.(they had to retrieve the old nokia download..which was quite a 'lost file')..i am in an area which has been getting very spotty service lately..i do not know if it is my old phone or just the nature of the area where i am..(Verizon said another local carrier, which was unregulated(canadian)was boosting their signals and causing verizon customers to have cut outs..is this accurate?even though i have been with verizon for Years, they will not give me a 'new every two' phone.(because i have had a series of one year contracts..for 12 years)they are really chintzy on their phones, here(this local varizon store)(other places are not so bad) anyway,i do not want a new phone if i do not have to get a new one..i do not do text msg or photos,or internet browsing.my question specific is:do i absolutely need a new phone?when?
