New PC - One continuous/screeching beep when power is on

Nov 17, 2004 11:27AM PST

I'm building my own PC (specs below). When I turn on the power I get one continuous (and screeching) beep and nothing happens on the monitor. The BIOS (judging from the material that came with the Mobo) is AMI. What does this mean? Something with the RAM?

Specs
-------------------------------------
P4 3.0EGHz w/HT
P4C800-E Mobo
1GB PC3200 DDR
Geforce 6800GT
Seagate 80GB SATA

Whoops - the power connection on the back of the video card wasn't connected. Ignore the post.

I know you mentioned to ignore this message, but I just "cut&pasted" this message from a similar power-up problem. Seems eeirly Please read below...

Though, I didn't help you in your problem solving, I just wanted to mention just FYI, the best advice I given people though it may not seem like it at the time, "don't take anything for granted, check it". Regardless of experience or talents, too often I've found the smallest things over-looked cause big problems. -OR- once you look beyond the typical the next area is at fault.

I'm glad you resolved your problem. I'm not picking on you just my 2-cents pass on.

good luck -----Willy
