New PC must "Cold" Boot after 2nd Hard Drive added

Feb 18, 2006 7:12AM PST

1 week old PC = HP Pavilion, Model a1310n, running XP Media Center 2005. "Back-up" HD = 160 gig, Seagate Ultra ATA/100.

There were problems with the computer "Out of the box". I had to do a couple of "System Recoveries" but it now seems to run OK.

I backed up all my files etc. from my old PC (Windows Me upgraded to XP) into the 160 gig HD. The "Back-up" HD was the slave in my old PC. It contains Files etc. there is no Operating System on it.

After installing the "Back-up" HD into the new PC I get an "Error loading OS" message when I boot-up. If I turn off the PC, wait 60 seconds and then turn it on it loads OK and yes I can access the 2nd HD, copy files and paste them into the new 200 gig HD etc.

When I disconnect the "Back-up" HD I can do a normal Restart.

I've got a fair investment in time in the new PC and don't want to return it if I can fix it. HP says it's not their problem.

I'll appreciate any help.

I just looked again. Although, both the C (Master HD) and F (Back-up HD) are NTFS the D Drive which is a partition on the C drive and contains the "HP_Recovery" program is FAT32.
