New PC - Multi Player Gaming Issue

Mar 14, 2004 4:04AM PST

I built a new PC and it is working great except for one thing. Multi player games. The games look great, but when another player (real or bot) steps out, they flicker and jump as if I was trying to play on a 28k modem connection. This happens even when I am playing only with computer generated oponents.

What I have:
P4 2.8ghz w/ 800mhz FSB
ASUSP4P800S Mother Board (supports 800mhz FSB)
1gig DDR 3200 Ram
GeForce fx 5200 AGP Card (tried a GeForce 440ti as well - same thing)
60gig SATA drive (boot drive and where game is installed)
150gig IDE for media storage
52x cdrom
450 watt power supply
soundblaster
2 case fans (tried with case open too just in case heat was the issue)

I have tried the latest drivers for nvidia as well as an older driver. I tried a different video card. I tried a new Network card (was using the on board one), even disabled the onboard in case that was it.

I took it to a PC Repair shop and they had no advice outside updating drivers. Did that. Patch the game? Did that too! So far I have tried Red Faction AND the Far Cry demo. I even updated my bios.

This is my wife's pc and I am getting in deeper and deeper the longer she can't play her games...

Thanks for ANY help you can provide!

Scott

Try...

1. 1 Stick of RAM. i.e. 512M

2. Be parasite free.
PARASITES. These can no longer be tolerated. Let me state that your antivirus does not detect/remove all PARASITES! I consider SPYWARE, ADWARE, VIRUS and TROJANS to be lumped into a category I call parasites. Symantec has yet to WAKE UP! to the spyware/adware parasite issue.

Parasite removal programs.

http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6132-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=1313&start=0 notes the five scanning tools and removal tools that are fairly safe. If one does encounter an issue, its always been damage done by the MALWARE. The most common issue being Layered Service Provider replacement which you can use LSPFIX (Hint: use http://www.google.com to find).

The thread has follow on discussions about new links if you don't want to use Google to find an item.

Bob

PS. All the tools are free.

I understand the parasite possability though I doubt it as I tested this on a clean install. But for the RAM, how would that cause this type of problem? I don't doubt it and will remove one and see but I am curious!

Thanks!

Clean install increases the chance of an infection.

Almost counter-intuitive till you learn about how MS Blaster and it's varients work. A clean install won't have all the patches and as such, the door is open to these and more.

Hope you use the tools and update the OS.
